I applaud the courage of this post. It goes against the great myth of “get the hell outta your parents house at 18 and never come back!”.

To be fair, in all cultures there seems to be an element of a person becoming independent and mature. But only in the last 150 years has this been interpreted as “if you live with your parents, you’re a failure”.

To make the point that living with your parents doesn’t make you a loser, this post affirms another great modern capitalist myth — the glorification of work and “work as meaning”.

I wish it didn’t do that.

One day someone will write an even braver blog post about living with their parents AND working less while still hanging out with friends, BUT doing so in a way where one pays their cost, pulls their weight and contributes to the household.

Now that’d be a truly groundbreaking piece.
